School Board

The Consultative School Board (Board) exists to assist the school community in its essential goal of educating young people and passing on the Catholic faith and its traditions to its students. In their Pastoral statement, To Teach As Jesus Did, the U.S. Bishops state that “planning and implementing the educational mission of the Church must involve the entire Catholic community and that such involvement is achieved through such structures and processes representative of the Community.” (TTJD #139). By drawing on the expertise and experience of its members, the Board helps secure the future of the school as an institution of education and formation in Catholic moral principles and traditions, and in all aspects of education.

Getting Involved/Volunteer Hours

At Mount Carmel School our children actively participate in a year-long community outreach program. As parents, we also demonstrate that we’re part of a greater educational, religious, and social community through our commitment to service to the school.

Children whose parents are actively involved in school do better academically and socially. Children love seeing their parents here during the school day, or knowing that they are contributing their time to the school community. There are many opportunities available; day, night, on or off campus.

Parents who come to school to assist in the classroom, serve hot lunch, supervise the yard, drop something off, meet with a teacher, etc. must sign in at the office and wear a visitor’s badge the entire time on campus. Children are directed to tell a teacher or staff member if they see someone on campus that is not wearing a badge.

All volunteers must complete the Virtus Online Training. Once you have completed the training, print your certificate and bring a copy into the office.

A LiveScan fingerprint clearance is a higher degree of screening and allows volunteers to interact with all programs where parent volunteers are needed. Parents with fingerprint clearance may be in a volunteer position where school personnel are not in direct observation (supervision), such as after-school coaches. The school must have a copy of the clearance.

LiveScan Form (Please take this form to a UPS store to complete and bring your receipt to school for reimbursement)

Submit your hours on your FACTS Family Portal account as you complete them. Remember that you must complete all hours by the last day of school of each year. The exception is for hours performed during the summer which may be credited to either the school year just finished or the one coming up. Auction hours (2) and Festival Hours (9) are required as part of your volunteer commitment.

More information on current volunteer opportunities can be found in the weekly eNewsletter as well as the document linked here.
